Sometimes there is nothing more enjoyable than sitting down with a hot cup of tea to scoff at how lavishly unbelievable the rich and famous can be. At Christmas, when we are all reminded that it’s the thought that counts, some celebrities believe that unless the gift is in the thousands it doesn’t really count at all.
Drake – Stripper Pole (2012)
Apparently 2012 was the year for extravagant Christmas presents. Drake’s present to himself may not be outrageously expensive, but it is something you wouldn’t typically find under a Christmas tree. Captioning the image of his brand new stripper pole, Drake wrote “Christmas gift to myself”. This alternative piece of living room furniture was just one of many of Drake’s actions in 2011/2012 to promote his ‘YOLO’ brand and lifestyle.
Rihanna – Porsche (2012)
Back in 2012, it must have been a good time to be Rihanna. Not only did she buy herself a $12million mansion in the Pacific Palisades, but her record label, Jay-Z’s Roc-Nation, made it a Christmas to remember when they bought her a Porsche worth $160,700. That’s one way to show an employee that their work is appreciated, but you wouldn’t want to be one of the lesser known artists who got a gift card for WHSmith.
North West – Mini Lamborghini (2013)
If you watch My Super Sweet Sixteen, you'll know that in the US getting your child a brand new car isn’t unheard of. However, one memorable Christmas two years ago, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian got their seven-month-old daughter a Lamborghini. A mini Lamborghini! Kim Kardashian posted the photo on her Instagram with the caption "Like father, like daughter". Now we have to wait for over a decade to see how ‘Kimye’ will outdo themselves for North’s sweet sixteen.
Floyd Mayweather – Tiger (2015)
As an early Christmas present, Floyd Mayweather has caused controversy with a gift he received from his support crew, The Money Team. A tiger cub. Mayweather posted a picture with the cub, with a caption thanking his support team and asking “Any suggestions for a name for this two-month old, female tiger?” Many animal rights activists have become quite vocal over Twitter and Instagram, stating that Mayweather has no right to domesticate such an exotic animal. Whether or not Mayweather pays attention to his Twitter feed, we hope he remembers that a tiger is for life, not just for Christmas.
