One of our clients, John Godber Company, is taking an excellent show on a national tour from February-April 2016. Shafted! first ran at East Riding Theatre in April 2015 to much applause and critical acclaim, and soon it will visit everywhere from Scarborough to London, as well as another run in Beverley. Below is a synopsis, venue and dates, and booking links (in red) where available.
In 1985 the miners were defeated, their families were torn apart and the media circus went home. John Godber’s epic new play traces what happened to miner Harry and his wife Dot in the thirty years after the strike.
Suddenly they were thrown together, with new battles to fight and new jobs to hold down; from window cleaning in Wakefield to running a boarding house in Bridlington; but life would never be the same again.
Fuelled with eye-watering honesty and true Yorkshire grit, this is a hilarious account of those whose jobs had been taken and whose communities had been destroyed, and how they fought back after being Shafted!
The pits may have gone but the shifts are still seismic!
This production is performed by the multi BAFTA-winning partnership of John Godber and Jane Thornton, whose previous work together includes the Olivier Award-nominated April in Paris, BBC Radio 4’s Classic Radio Theatre, September in the Rain, Happy Jack and the Laurence Olivier Award-winning comedy Up ‘n’ Under.
