Sam Hardy has joined sobananapenguin as our shiny new Marketing Officer. Read on to find out what she gets up to both here and in her spare time. Spoiler alert: Expect a fluffy dog and a Star Wars reference in the same sentence.
Fresh out of two years of Communications and Marketing Assistant-ing at Hull Truck Theatre, and still recovering from the crazy-amazing whirlwind that was City of Culture, I’m now situated happily in the sobananapenguin office at K2 Bond Street, surrounded by patterned vinyl walls and stuffed penguins. (Okay, only one stuffed penguin, but he’s too cute to not be mentioned).
Just finishing up my first week as a proper Penguin, I’ve met lots of new people, taken in tons of information and explored new buildings, all topped off by a brief experience where I accidentally made myself a massive espresso in the K2 kitchen and, surrounded by people who definitely DO know how to use a coffee machine, was too embarrassed to rectify my mistake. This left me with no option other than to down approximately three inches of sad, strong coffee.
To introduce myself a little bit as a person, I like dancing my heart out at gigs all over the country as often as possible; spending too much of my hard-earned money on crazy-patterned trousers; updating my Twitter account like its nobody’s business; and annoying my dog, a prissy Pomeranian named Princess Leia (obviously).
The K2 building is a great place to work, full of brightly decorated walls, lovely people, and even a whole floor dedicated to Lion Heart Hot Yoga – something I now have a trial for (despite never having done a second of yoga before in my whole 23 years of life, so that’ll go great).
Going forward, I’m very excited to meet a variety of other sobananapenguin clients to find out what they do and how they work, and hopefully build some exciting new partnerships along the way. I’ve started my second week off with a short meeting with Andrew Smith, the CEO of Hull Homeless Community Project, discussing what they’ve been getting up to during these first few months of 2018 – a lot of amazing stuff that I’ll be updating on shortly.
