How it all began

Hello there, my name's Rich Sutherland and I'm the owner of sobananapenguin. Weird company name, right? Well, did you know that you can make a penguin out of a banana? True story. Speaking of true stories, here's how we became a popular choice for digital marketing services in Hull and beyond.
I didn't actually study anything to do with marketing at uni, instead taking a degree in Art History. The two may seem unconnected, yet the subject allowed me to enhance my writing style and explore new ways of stating facts and expressing unique thoughts. This was followed by jobs that included bookseller, market researcher and events manager, before entering the world of marketing at a theatre and then an agency. I learnt a lot during this time, which set me up for tackling new goals. In 2012 I decided to go self-employed, enabling me to focus on my core skills and achieve greater ownership over the work that I deliver. The result was sobananapenguin, which over the years has created engaging content and managed social media channels for everything from solicitors and accountants to tech start-ups and coffee shops. Working with me are some amazing people who have helped to grow the business and diversify our service offering, which is why we're also your go-to provider of graphic design, pay-per-click advertising and HTML email campaigns.
