30/9/2019 0 Comments Discover a World of Design at FormOne of our favourite things about Hull is how many independent retailers there are scattered across the city, from eco-friendly market stalls, to shops that specialise in homemade cakes and pastries, and everything in between. If you’re looking for unique pieces of art and illustrated conversation pieces to decorate your home and impress your guests, there’s only one place to be – Form Shop & Studio. Located down the uber-hip Humber Street, Form is a local gem that sells a wide variety of affordable art prints, gift cards, magazines, stationery, and accessories such as badges and enamel pins, all at a wallet-friendly price.
This awesome indie business started in 2016 as an online store run by designer and musician Joseph Cox and museum gift shop fanatic Alice Thomson. Since then, they’ve had three physical locations down Humber Street, moving from a cosy unit to a bigger building a few steps away, and now an even larger home at number 62-63. Specialising in design-led gifts, they’re also the only place where you can buy the Giant Hull Wordsearch, which is perfect for educating your out of town friends on our unique slang. Pattie buttie, anyone? The shop is also a base for Joe’s own work, where he produces designs for Form's customers as well as pieces for local businesses and events. You might recognise his work from the popular artwork for the Humber Street Sesh, and the iconic Hull UK City of Culture 2017 map. Much of Joe’s work is focused on Hull itself, such as his simplistic prints of legendary buildings like Spiders nightclub and Hull City Hall, not to mention the city’s many bridges. The duo behind Form are dedicated to showing off what our region has to offer, so they do whatever they can to support local artists and designers by offering a place where their work is easily available to view and buy. They also want to offer a choice to purchase items that people would usually have to shop for online, with a variety of wonderful and unique books and gifts all under one roof. They don’t just focus solely on Hull either, as Form puts the spotlight on artists from far and wide, helping them to gain much-deserved recognition. Form have an awesome website, where you can browse a huge range of quirky products and order yourself some goodies if you don’t have time to pop in. Happy shopping!
