How to be Successful in 2017

At the start of the new year, we all have goals that we’d love to achieve. But in all honesty, how many of us actually stick to them? We don’t know about you, but we’re always promising ourselves to lose a few pounds, yet by the first weekend we’re already reaching for the choccy!

Nevertheless, this year we’re determined to stay on track and be successful in our resolutions, and we’ve got some great tips to share with you.

Set out clear goals

Firstly, decide exactly what you want to be successful at. Whether it’s starting a new business venture, landing that promotion at work or adopting a healthier lifestyle. It may sound simple, but figuring out exactly what you want to do can really help when working towards a dream goal.

To do this, we recommend writing your ideas down. By getting goals out of your head and onto paper, the likelihood of you achieving them increases. This was discovered by Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University, California, who recently studied the art and science of goal setting. She found that a person becomes 42% more likely to achieve their goals and dreams by simply writing them down on a regular basis.

They’re also great to look back on when times get tough, to remind yourself why you started in the first place.

Don’t let past failures put you off

If you’ve already tried and failed at your dream, don’t let this stop you from trying again. It’s quite common for people to fail the first time round, and even the second, third and fourth, but it’d be a complete waste of time if you gave up completely.  Learn from your mistakes and put your experiences to good use.

Celebrate the little things

Motivate yourself by enjoying the more modest achievements that you make. In most cases, no one else is going to come along and congratulate you on the small things, so be sure to take the time to recognise your accomplishments.

Don’t wait until tomorrow

We’ve all been there, telling ourselves (and others) that we’ll get round to doing something tomorrow. The truth is, we never do! We’ve all heard the phrase there’s no time like the present, so let’s put it into action.

Today is the best time to start working towards your goals, whether that’s hitting the gym or writing up your business plan.

Never give up

It’s all well and good admitting defeat when times get tough, but that means that come January 2018, you’ll be making the same promises to yourself again. Power through and be resilient – you’ll thank yourself this time next year.

Even if it doesn’t work out exactly as you planned, at least you can say that you tried and gained experience from it.
