With the Edinburgh Fringe in full swing, we’re putting the spotlight on some of Hull’s biggest and brightest theatre companies. Middle Child The main focus of Middle Child is on creating gig theatre – lively, modern shows that bring people together for a good night out by mixing original live music with bold new writing. Their last two shows, Us Against Whatever and All We Ever Wanted Was Everything, revolved heavily around the issues facing our country at the moment, proving huge hits both in Hull and on tour. The Roaring Girls Another breath of fresh creative air in the city, The Roaring Girls continuously set out to create work that is ‘fierce, feminist and fun’ – and they always succeed. Using personal experiences to create engaging and hilarious stories, they aim to put out theatre that their audience can relate to, whether that’s by opening the discussion up to the crowd or sharing a pack of digestives with the room. The Herd Theatre isn’t just for adults. The Herd have been on the scene for a while now, making fun, colourful and innovative shows about the world that young people live in today. Whenever they have an idea, they expand on it by collaborating with little ones, then playing, sharing and talking with their audiences to make work that's both educational and enjoyable. Silent Uproar Theatre for geeks, by geeks. Targeting the Netflix generation, Silent Uproar take inspiration from the current pop culture scene to create shows for people who might not consider a night out at the theatre as something they’d enjoy, with the aim to introduce them to how it’s just as fun as going to the cinema or dancing at a gig. In the process, they manage to cover serious topics, such as mental health and social exclusion. Brick by Brick Run by Jack and Jack, Brick by Brick believe that the power of laughter is the most effective way to tell a story. Dedicating their skills to providing audiences with a comical reflection on the everyday circumstances that make us human, they perform using a number of techniques, such as clowning and multimedia. This ensures that everyone has a good laugh and a great night out, whilst perhaps learning a little about the possible applications of future technology. Just Club One of the newest companies on the scene, Just Club was formed by three graduates of the University of Hull with the shared goal to combine the excitement of live music, spoken word and a wild night out. The team behind Just Club invite you to a totally unforgettable theatre experience, where you can forget about the past and just focus on the now. Comments are closed.
