Why Use Twitter for Your Small Business?

Twitter has fast become one of the biggest social network platforms in the world. With over 313 million active users and 500 million tweets sent out each day, it’d be crazy for you not to consider using this powerful channel to grow your business.

It's important to note that you shouldn’t be intimidated by these numbers, even if you’re just starting out or run a small shop. In fact, small to medium-sized businesses are those that benefit most from using Twitter.

According to the social giant, 66% of users have discovered a new SME via Twitter. Meanwhile, 94% said that they plan to buy, or already have bought, from the small businesses that they follow. Additionally, 69% of people claimed that they purchased something from a small business because of something that they saw on Twitter. These figures are astounding, as we’re sure you’ll agree.

If you’re still not convinced, here are 5 more reasons that you should be using Twitter to promote your business.

Everyone’s at it
So many businesses are already making great use of the platform, and that means that your competitors could be ahead of the game. Whilst we're not ones to follow the crowd, it's good to have a strong presence on social media and stand out from the competition.

Connect and engage
With so many active users, it's very likely that your perfect customer will have a Twitter account. The platform is set up in such a way that it’s super easy to engage and connect with potential and current customers. Whether it's a small in-joke with a client or solving a customer query, a tweet or direct message is a great way to go about it. In short, it's a great tool to keep your customers updated, engaged and connected.

It’s free
Many business owners need to keep marketing costs down to a minimum, so it'll be music to your ears that Twitter is free to use. Unlike some promotional tools, the platform is a versatile and effective means of getting your messages out there without having to part with cash. You can also pay for promoted tweets, but this isn't absolutely necessary to get your voice heard.

Anyone can use it
Accessing and using Twitter is really simple. You can even do it from your phone thanks to the handy app. Simply write 140 characters or less, add a photo and/or link if relevant, and then send it out to your followers. In the meantime, there are several scheduling tools available that are compatible with the platform to help you plan your tweets in advance. Turning on notifications also means that you’ll never miss an interaction or enquiry.

Keep track of activity
The results of social media marketing can often be difficult to track. However, with Twitter Analytics you can easily keep a record of what's happening. Monitor engagement with specific tweets, discover top influencers in your field, and learn more about your potential customers. It will tell you almost everything, from what your top tweet for the month was, to what your most engaged followers are interested in. Plus like the app, Twitter Analytics are free to use.
